8″ x 10″ Tintype
Gerald Figal, United States
Gerald said of this piece:
In my case I knew what I wanted to do before the M10 Gas Mask arrived. I think my experience teaching a course on Japanese animation AND my extensive experience doing pinhole photography make me sensitive to POV (point-of-view) shots, so it was decided I was going to shoot through the mask if it were optically possible. It was, with difficulty, but ultimately worth the three-day effort. The “lungs” idea emerged on day one and become the one I went with after several attempts at it.
Gerald has published extensively on photography, and you can read some of his fascinating essays here. He’d love to hear your thoughts on them.
